Our Story

From the Historic
Jazz District to
your practice room.

At B.A.C. Musical Instruments, our mission is to make a lasting impact on schools, families, and musicians by providing high-quality, repairable instruments that enrich music education and performance. We believe music can change lives — and that's why we do what we do.

Elliot Mason with B.A.C. trombone

Best American
Craftsmen.

In 1999, a young instrument repair technician named Mike Corrigan saw something troubling: the number of American musical instrument manufacturers was shrinking, while demand for the rich, warm sound of vintage "Golden Age" horns (1930s–1960s) was only growing.

Corrigan understood what modern mass production had lost — the character, the soul, the resonance that made those vintage instruments sing. In 2004, he envisioned a company that could build new instruments with the acoustic qualities of the classics, designed for the demands of today's professionals. That vision became B.A.C.: Best American Craftsmen.

2004
A Vision Born
B.A.C. begins in a small utility closet of Corrigan's Overland Park, KS home. Armed with hand tools and an unwavering belief that American craftsmanship still matters.
2009
First Custom Instruments
The first B.A.C. Custom jazz trombones are completed. Elliot Mason of Jazz at Lincoln Center becomes B.A.C.'s first endorsing artist — a milestone that validates Corrigan's vision.
2011
Artist Series with Trombone Shorty
B.A.C. partners with Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews to launch the Artist Series — instruments donated to kids across New Orleans. Corrigan receives a key to the city from Mayor Mitch Landrieu for B.A.C.'s role in restoring the New Orleans music scene post-Katrina.
2014
The Jazz District
B.A.C. relocates to the Historic Jazz District of Kansas City, MO — off The Paseo, across from 12th Street and Vine. The same streets where Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Big Joe Turner shaped American music.
